Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Dalim Roy, contesting from the Maynaguri Assembly constituency in Jalpaiguri district, sustained a head injury during an election campaign on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred near the Maynaguri station intersection while he was interacting with locals as part of his outreach. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed that his condition is stable.
According to party members present at the scene, the injury took place when Roy accidentally hit his head on a low tin roof while entering a shop during a public interaction. The impact caused a deep cut on his forehead, leading to visible bleeding. Party workers and supporters quickly responded and rushed him to Maynaguri Rural Hospital, where he received primary medical treatment.
Local BJP leaders stated that the campaign was nearing completion for the day when the incident happened. Following treatment, Roy was advised to take rest for a few days. However, party leaders indicated that he is expected to resume campaigning soon, given the proximity of polling in the constituency scheduled for April 23. Later in the day, he reportedly met party workers and leaders, signaling a quick recovery.
The development comes amid earlier internal tensions within the party over the Maynaguri candidature. Dalim Roy had been declared the official candidate after replacing a previously announced nominee, a move that had triggered protests among party workers. Despite the earlier controversy, the campaign had been gaining momentum before the incident temporarily disrupted his outreach efforts.
